Ensuring Safe Driving with Comprehensive Medical Assessments

At CityMed Clinic, we understand the importance of road safety. That’s why we offer ICBC Driver’s Medical Examinations (DMER) to assess a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. These assessments, required by RoadSafetyBC, determine if a driver meets the necessary medical standards for maintaining a valid license.

Why is a Driver’s Medical Examination Needed?

A Driver’s Medical Examination Report (MV2011D) may be required for the following reasons:

  • Age Requirements – Drivers aged 80 and older must undergo medical exams at ages 80, 85, and every two years thereafter.
  • Licence Class – Commercial drivers must complete a DMER at the time of application, renewal, and scheduled intervals.
  • Medical Conditions – If a driver has a known medical condition that may impact their driving ability.
  • Credible Concerns – If police, healthcare professionals, family members, or ICBC report concerns regarding a driver’s fitness to drive.

What Does the Medical Examination Assess?

During a DMER at CityMed Clinic, our licensed healthcare professionals evaluate various aspects of a driver’s health, including:

1. Cognitive Function

  • Memory, attention, and judgment
  • Decision-making abilities and reaction times

2. Vision Assessment

  • Visual acuity and peripheral vision
  • Depth perception and night vision

3. Physical Health

  • Mobility, motor function, and reflexes
  • Chronic conditions that may affect driving, such as arthritis or neurological disorders

🚫 Note: This is a medical examination only and does not include a road test.

The Process at CityMed Clinic

Our ICBC Driver’s Medical Exam process is simple and efficient:

  1. Schedule an Appointment – Book your exam at CityMed Clinic in White Rock or Surrey.
  2. Medical Assessment – Our physician or nurse practitioner will conduct the necessary evaluations.
  3. Form Submission – We complete and submit the report to RoadSafetyBC on your behalf.
  4. Decision from RoadSafetyBC – They will determine whether you can continue driving, require restrictions, or need additional testing.

Important Deadlines

  • DMER Submission Deadline – The completed form must be sent to RoadSafetyBC within 45 days.
  • Failure to Submit – Not submitting the form on time may lead to license suspension or cancellation.

For Commercial Drivers

  • Downgrading a Licence – If you no longer need a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 licence, you can downgrade instead of completing the medical exam.
  • Reinstating a Licence – If you downgraded within three years, you may reapply without retaking all tests, but you must complete a new medical examination.
